To work on emptiness, blank space and silence is to give in to the human limit, to our inability to fill with meaning everything that comes into contact with us, but it is also to leave space so that the mystery of the Abyss, the unreachable infinity that we can only intuit, can emerge in painting. Martin Heidegger argued that art had to be the space that confronted us with questions about being. In this way, art acquires a transcendence and a spiritual and metaphysical dimension, which we also discover in Martoranno's production.  Maillard assures that only when the artist empties his mind and is not guided by reason or preconceived notions, can he capture the echo of immeasurable things, the layers of reality that cannot be said normally, and "add to his trajectory". The leisurely observation and reflection through which we become aware of the limits of the world, facilitated by Martoranno's refined but no less enigmatic language, places us on this border between the Abyss, the deepest, most unapproachable and silent world, and our existence.
